Virginia Hand Callaway (1900–1995), co-founder of what was originally called Ida Cason Gardens, was passionate about connecting people with the natural world. Her legacy lives on at this beautiful 35,000-square-foot facility nestled on the edge of Mountain Creek Lake.
Inside, a knowledgeable staff and interactive kiosks offer an overview of the Gardens' past and present. The Discovery Center also houses an auditorium, art exhibits, an education wing featuring our Crawleseum, and the Discovery Gift Shop. Outside you'll find TreeTop Adventure Zip Lines, the Vaughn-Jordan Backyard Wildlife Habitat Garden, the Discovery Café, and the Discovery Amphitheater, home to our beloved free-flighted Birds of Prey.

Flights of fancy await you in the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center, where typically 1,000 or more butterflies flutter freely about in one of North America’s largest tropical butterfly conservatories.
Wind through the gardens at your own pace and discover quiet corners you never knew existed. The 10-mile Discovery Bike Trail winds through a variety of scenic woodland environments and stops at all of the gardens and attractions.
Built as a tribute to Cason Callaway's mother, this peaceful fieldstone chapel features nature-themed stained glass windows and a custom Möller pipe organ. Stop in for a quiet moment or stay for a concert.
